About Wyzant

Wyzant is a tutoring marketplace for online and in-person lessons. Its tutor page says listing a profile is free, tutors choose their own hourly rate, and Wyzant pays by direct deposit after a lesson is reported. To be considered, an applicant must be at least 18, live in the United States, and have a valid Social Security Number. A teaching certificate is not required. Wyzant says a staff member reviews applications within 24-48 hours.

Wyzant's fee page says tutors keep 75% of their posted hourly rate, minus applicable taxes, and Wyzant keeps a 25% platform fee. The same page says a tutor who refers a new student keeps 100% of their rate for lessons with that student, and that all lessons are subject to a 9% service fee and applicable taxes. This listing does not combine those statements into a single take-home number.
